Vital [Casimir] Cuinet (December 19, 1833, Longeville - September 6, 1896, Istanbul) was a French geographer and orientalist. He is known for his work "La Turquie d'Asie, géographie administrative: statistique, descriptive et raisonnée de chaque province de l'Asie Mineure", in which he discussed the socio-economic situation of the Ottoman Empire in Asia.
He is the founder, publishing director and curator of Gallery Birzamanlar. He was born in 1957 in Maraş. He worked as a reporter and editor in various daily newspapers, weekly and monthly magazines. He served as the editor-in-chief of Toplumsal Tarih (Social History) monthly magazine published by the History Foundation.
Since the early 1990s, he concentrated on the history and current problems of non-Muslim communities, as an activist, publisher and researcher.
He has published numerous books in this field. He made and joined into presentations, as well as prepared exhibitions in Turkey, Germany, France, Switzerland, USA, UK, Syria, Armenia, Austria, the Netherlands.
He is one of the rare Turkish history researchers who works on the social history of the Armenians by using sources from Turkish (Ottoman), Armenian and Western languages together.
